We really like
Ameritec Bulk Call Generators. They’re
easy to use, relatively bug free compared to some other companies’ comparable
equipment, and cost effective. The only
downsides that we know about is that the AM2S Squirt, AM2 Niagara, and CRS
Crescendo units do not support protocols such as GR303. The Ameritec Fortissimo can support a lot
more protocols, and is rumored to work well, but we’ve never been able to get
our hands on one.
For cost-effective
analog line testing, we highly recommend the AM2S-A and AM2A (64 line) portable
bulk call generators, and the CRS-A Crescendo rackmount (128 lines). For mixed testing, we have the CRS-AD, which
can call/receive on 64 POTs lines and 4 T1s simulataneously. Unfortunately with
these bulk call generators, all the units’ original batteries have probably
died by now, which scrambles the internal filesystem. Replacing the $40! battery embedded on the processor card usually
doesn’t help in this situation. We
change our batteries early and add extra batteries when possible so what you
get will work for years. The Ameritecs,
except for the battery situation, are very reliable.
For call testing,
we have the Ameritec AM8a (T1) and AM8e (E1) PCM/VF Call Analyzers. For line/transmission testing, we have the
AM5XT, AM5eXT, and the extended AM5XT-200 and AM5eXT-200. These devices have two batteries – one is
the $40 lithium-thionyl battery buried on a circuit board and the other is an
optional lead-acid battery for truly portable operation. The lithium battery is not required, but is
convenient for saving your settings.
