Why We Like HP Laser Printers! A) Excellent Driver Support. Some inexpensive printers use the computer for rendering. When you’re forced to upgrade, say from Windows 95 to 98, you’re pretty much (techincally speaking) screwed. HP laser printers have understood PCL for many many years, and most also understand Postscript. We’ve never had to throw away an HP for compatibility issues. B) Readily available toner cartridges. Cartridges, both refilled and new, are plentiful on ebay for a big discount. Some companies, ie. Lexmark, have embedded microchips in their cartridges to render them not reusable. As far as we know the HP 4000 series does not do this, and the 4100 series has a microchip to tell how much toner is left. We don’t know about newer models. C) LCD display for status and easy configuration (most models). D) Excellent network support. Most HP printers come with or can accept a plug in module called a Jetadmin card so you can connect directly to a network. No computer needs to be left on as a print server. E) Button to cancel current print job (most models) – important for shared printers! F) Free Jetadmin software. Manage all your printers from one computer. Upload new firmware (some models). G) Manage your printer via the Web. H) Most medium level HP printers also allow you to add one or more paper trays, and tell the printer what type of paper is each tray (prepunched, letterhead, etc.). Users can select what type of paper they want without knowing which tray it’s in. We use this feature to print important notes on colored paper. I) Estimated 10,000 page yield cartridges available for most HP printers. J) Many HP printers allow you to add a duplexer module at any time to allow printing on both sides of the paper. With the duplexer and a prepunched paper tray, pdf manuals are easy and quick to print! Why We Sell HP Laser Printers! We have used many HP lasers in the past: 4m (430,000 copies, and still working), 5L, 2100N, 4000N, 4050TN, 4100MFP (w/copier attachment), and 5000GN. The only one we didn’t like was the 5L, HP’s low end junky printer. So we sell what we believe in. |
